National Career Readiness Certificate Now Available Region-Wide

FTDD Staff

The First Tennessee Development District, in partnership with Northeast State Community College, is pleased to announce that National Career Readiness Certification (NCRC) testing is now available at no cost across Northeast Tennessee. Funds to make approximately 475 tests available come from the Tennessee Opioid Abatement Fund and a grant from the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development. These funds will be administered by the Northeast Tennessee Local Workforce Board.

This nationally recognized credential assesses foundational skills essential for success in today’s workforce, including:

  • Applied Math – Solving work-related mathematical problems

  • Workplace Documents – Comprehending and applying written information

  • Graphic Literacy – Interpreting workplace graphics

Candidates can earn the NCRC at four proficiency levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Higher levels indicate more advanced skills.

"Employers use the NCRC to identify qualified candidates, streamline hiring, and improve workforce productivity, shared Scott Vaughn with the FTDD." Vaughn added that "for job seekers, it enhances employability, validates skills, and can open doors to better career opportunities. By bridging the gap between education and employment, the NCRC strengthens the workforce and supports economic growth."

  • Career Mobility: Provides a competitive edge in hiring and promotions
