Substitute Teacher Pool
The project received input from Washington County childcare providers to establish a common wage and accessible fees for substitute teachers. Local educational institutions - ETSU, Milligan University, and Northeast State Community College - assisted in finding qualified substitute teacher candidates. Colonial Heights United Methodist Preschool partnered as a Mentor Center and helped with subs' final training requirements. ChildcareNortheastTN.com was initiated by funders dedicated to providing information for families in northeast Tennessee to make informed childcare decisions.

The "sub pool" was created to address the shortage of childcare teachers in our region's licensed centers. It is currently being piloted in Washington County and Sullivan County. The goal is to eventually expand the service to all eight counties in the region. The sub pool program will recruit, train, and connect qualified substitute teachers with licensed childcare providers, supporting both families and providers.

If you are a childcare provider and want to learn more about joining the substitute teacher pool service, you can email us at childcare@ftdd.org or call (423)979-2582.
