The purpose of the First Tennessee Rural Planning Organization (FTRPO) is to involve local officials in multi-modal transportation planning. The goal of the FTRPO is to allow local officials and citizens within the FTRPO to have input into the transportation process and to promote unified regional transportation goals.

The RPO will review and analyze multi-modal transportation needs on a local and regional basis; review long-term needs as well as short-term funding

priorities; and make appropriate recommendations to the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT).

Specifically, the FTRPO will also:

    •    Create and maintain an Executive and Technical Committee to represent and identify transportation needs within the First Tennessee Development

         District.

    •   Maintain open lines of communication with TDOT to ensure that all transportation needs within the community are being properly addressed.

    •   Provide a forum for public participation in the transportation planning process.

    •   Serve as a conduit that provides transportation related information and presentations to local government and other interested organizations.
